Free Pattern - Simple Knit Fingerless Gloves

I love kitting.  I love the way the stitches look, how there isn't all those little holes that you have when crocheting, the needles...but knitting takes me so much longer than Crocheting.   Because of that I usually will opt to crochet.  But these simple Fingerless Gloves are a quick little project that is easy to take along to work on during a child's practice or while waiting at a doctors office.  These would also make a great handmade Christmas gift!

You can keep reading to find the free pattern below or grab the PDF Version on Etsy or Ravelry. Don't forget to Pin so you can come back to it later.

I like to add a button to the cuff of mine to add a little extra style.

These are knit on straight needles and perfect for beginners, but they can also easily be knit using circular needles, utilizing the magic loop method, to do away with the seem.

Materials
  • #8 Straight Needles
  • Worsted Weight Yarn
  • Darning Needle for weaving in ends.
  • Stitch marker or small scrap piece of yarn to mark rows for thumb hole.
  • Scissors
  • Row Counter (optional)
  • Buttons (optional)

*Place marker at the end of Rows 11 & 21 to mark thumb hole opening

Row 1: Cast on 38.   K1, work {K3, P3} to last stitch, K1
Row 2: P1, {K3, P3} to last stitch, P1
Rows 3-8: Repeat rows 1 & 2
Rows 9-23: Work Stockinet Stitch
Row 24-36: Repeat rows 1&2.   off.  Sew Seam leaving an opening for the thumb.  Weave in ends and attach buttons for decoration.

For a fun twist, try doing stripes like this pair of grey and black ones I made. Just alternate colors every two rows {by alternating every 2 rows, you will avoid having to cut your yarn each row and eliminate all the dreaded weaving in}.

Another great variation is doing a K2,P2 rib instead of the K3,P3 like this fun pink pair.

I would love to see your finished projects!  If you are on social media you can tag me @crochethappens.

Happy Knitting,

~ Maggie
