Because I am known as a crocheter/knitter, I often have people donating me yarn that they have acquired for one reason or another. One of those times, I was given several skeins of Lion Brand's Homespun yarn. It is a bulky textured yarn that consists of loosely woven acrylic yarn wrapped in a thin polyester string, giving it a wavy appearance.

Materials

1 skein Lion Brand Homespun Yarn
Optional Pom (I used a homemade pom for this one but I also love these snap on ones).
Sharp needle for attaching pom if sewing on.

Pattern

Band
Row 1: Chain 11, SC in second chain from hook and to end. Chain 1, turn (10 sts)
Rows 2-28: SC back loop only to end. Chain 1, turn. (10sts)

Fold the piece in half so both ends are together and slip stitch closed to from the band of the beanie. Chain 1.

Top of Beanie
Round 1: Working along the side of the band, HDC around (48 sts), join with a slip stitch to the first stitch. Chain 1, turn.
Round 2-8: HDC around, joining with a slip stitch to the first stitch, chain 1.
Round 9: (HDC2Tog, HDC 4) around (40sts). Join, chain 1.
Round 10: (HDC2Tog, HDC2) around (30 sts). Join, chain 1.
Round 11: (HDC2Tog, HDC) around (20sts). Join, chain 1.
Round 12: HDC2Tog around (10sts), Join.
Fasten off leaving a long tail.

Finishing
Taking the tail and using your darning needle, weave the yarn through all 10 stitches and pull closed. Weave in the end.

You can attach a pom if you would like or leave it plain. You can find my tutorial on how to make your own poms here. I like to attach my poms using this method from A Crafty Concept.

Congratulations! You now have your very own Homespun Beanie. Be sure to share your beanie and tag me on Instagram, @crochethappens, or Facebook, @shopcrochethappens. I would love to see your beanie!

Happy crocheting,

~Maggie
