Pocket Potato - Free Crochet Pattern

When Anna from The Knotty Boss released these adorable Pocket Potato cards, I just had to make them right away. Her digital downloads come with an amazing pattern but as always, I was looking for something a little simpler and faster. I am able to whip up these adorable little guys in about 10 minutes so they are perfect for me.

This pattern is super simple, making it great for new crocheters who want to give amigurumi a try but are easily intimidated by more complex patterns.

Keep reading to find the free pattern below or purchase the PDF Version here. Don't forget to pin for later!

Pattern

Rnd 1: 6 SC in magic circle (6sts)

Rnd 2: 2 SC(INC) in each stitch around(12sts)

Rnd 3: SC around (12sts)

Rnd 4: (SC, INC) around (18sts)

Rnd 5-6: SC around (18sts)

Rnd 7: (SC 5, INC) around (21sts)

Rnd 8: SC (21sts)

Pause here to add the face. Place eyes 3 stitches apart between rounds 5 & 6 and then embroider the mouth using double stranded crochet thread. I sew the mouth by going down 1 stitch diagonally, 1 stitch across, and then up 1 stitch diagonally (\_/). Tie to secure and tuck in the ends.

I like to add a small amount of stuffing above the eyes at this point.

Rnd 9-10: SC around (21sts)

Add a little more stuffing in the body.

Rnd 11: (SC 5, INV DEC) around (18)

Rnd 12: (SC, INV DEC) around (12)

Add the rest of the stuffing.

Rnd 13: INV DEC around (6sts)

Fasten off by cutting your yarn, leaving at least a 8" tail, and then pull the tail all the way through the loop on your hook. I like to add a tiny bit more stuffing before sewing up the opening. Using your darning needle, sew through the front loop only of each of the 6 stitches and then pull tight to close. Securely weave in your end.

Congratulations! You now have your very own Pocket Potato. Be sure to share photos of your finished Pocket Potato and tag me, @crochethappens on Instagram or @shopcrochethappens on Facebook. I would love to see!

Happy Crocheting,

~Maggie
