Pocket Moon - Free Crochet Pattern

Today we got to watch the Solar Eclipse. We didn't get too excited about the last one in 2017 but since this one was so heavily talked about (and my mom gave us solar eclipse glasses) and we were lucky enough to be in the main path, we actually took the time to watch. But all this eclipse business made me think about how I had been asked several times about making Pocket Moons, so I figured what better day than today.

You can find the free pattern below or grab the PDF version along with the printable cards here.
Don't forget to pin for later!!

How great do the Moon and Sun look together?!

Materials

Worsted weight yarn
2.75mm crochet hook
6mm safety eyes
Black crochet thread
Stuffing
Darning Needle

Pattern

Rnd 1: 8 SC in magic circle (8sts).

Rnd 2: INC  around(16sts.) Place marker to mark the beginning of the round.

Rnd 3: (SC, INC) around (24sts).

Rnd 4: (SC, INC) around (36sts).

Rnd 5: (SC,INC) around (54sts).

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Fold in half, right side out, with the long tail at the bottom of the crescent. Using a darning needle, sew about ⅔ up and then pause to add the eyes and mouth. (I added my eyes 2 rows apart and then made a little V with the thread to make the mouth). Continue sewing up the moon, pausing to stuff as you go, until you reach the top. Weave in the end.

Congratulations! You now have your very own Pocket Moon. Be sure to share your moon and tag me on Instagram, @crochethappens, or Facebook, @shopcrochethappens. I would love to see!

Happy crocheting,

~Maggie
