Materials
- Worsted weight yarn (I used Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn in Hot Rose and Pink)
- 5mm crochet hook for cozy
- 2.75 crochet hook for heart (really any hook can be used, I just used a small one to make my hearts small)
- Darning needle for weaving in ends.
Finished Size: 4” x 3”
Cozy
Chain 28, slip stitch to join to first chain, being careful not to twist.
Rows 1-8: chain 1 and HDC in each stitch around, slipstitching to join at the end of each round. (28sts)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Heart
Magic Circle and then work all the following stitches into the circle:
Chain 2
3 Treble Crochet
3 Double Crochet
Chain 1
TC
Chain 1
3 DC
3 TC
Chain 2
Finish your heart by slip stitching into the circle, chaining 1, and then cutting the yarn (leaving a long tail for sewing) and pulling through the loop of you chain stitch. Pull the magic circle closed and tie the two yarn tails together.
You can either sew your heart applique onto the cozy or use hot glue. I chose to sew it on because I don't like how the hot glue makes the appliques really stiff.
These hearts can also be attached to other items as well like gloves, headbands, ear warmers, hats...so many uses.
Gifting Ideas
There are so many ways to gift a handmade coffee cozy. I love these printable cup templates from The Knotty Boss. She gives you 2 options, a regular cup and then a gift card holder cup. The gift card holder option makes it easy to add a gift card to their favorite coffee shop. Put it in an organza gift bag and you have a simple gift that looks great. You can also put the cozy on a reusable to-go cup and fill with candy and/or a gift card. This option is great because you can usually find candy that matches the holiday. This option is sure to wow, especially teenagers. Another option is to add them to a gift basket full of other coffee themed gifts.
I can't wait to see your creations. Be sure to snap a photo of your crocheted items to share on social media and don't forget to tag me.
Happy Crocheting,
Maggie
